This piece looks at the way females on social media portray themselves in a feminine way in order to attract more followers and gain likes. Their worlds are filled with things to mask the reality of being a female, and they attempt to make themselves appear perfect. In this piece I wanted to explore why we and many others do this.
My practice focuses primarily on the female body and my personal exploration of its textures, tones and contours. I tend to use myself as the model meaning I am the creator, subject and viewer of my work. Through using my own body I aim to create a reaction from the audience; reactions are important in my line of work to help me understand what the audience see. I wish to create a bond between the artist and audience. Through using the artist as the subject, the viewer is connected instantly to myself (the artist). My work delves into the portrayal of women within art history, as well as the current portrayal of the female body through the media, specifically social media.
