"Surfer un arbre" is a project directed by Nicolas Floc'h assisted by Xavier Moulin. A twelve artists, designers or again dancers are called to shape a tree in riding objects, looking like alais and paipos standards. Fabrication lasts for one week in the contemporary art center Passerelle before having a crash-test day in La Palue's waves, surf spot in Crozon peninsula. The "Riding a Red Cedar" set proposes many objects. A first alaia board shows ridges on its belly, like a whale's one. Ridges enable a maximal weight reduction of the board with a great deal of flex, solidity and water flow. A paipo is also drawn in a most weight reduction way, searching the limit of the material dealing with the wave contact. A bodysurf handplane comes wood flippers swaping their flexibility for a better edging in the wave. Then, the bodysurfer can take far supports, behing and ahead him.
EESAB was founded on December 27, 2010. It brings together the higher art schools in Brest, Lorient, Quimper and Rennes. These four schools had previously been part of a single association for over twenty years. This association was formed to promote and develop the higher arts schools in Brittany and played a unifying role in promoting their activities and forming partnerships with other cultural establishments.
