The term "Uncle Tom" is used as a derogatory epithet for an excessively subservient person. The use of the epithet is the result of later works derived from the original 1852 novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin. In this case the canvas with the depiction of the Greek flag behind, is almost fully covered with earth and painted ‘anthracite grey’ spray paint. The work comments the acceptance of being inferior and the state of hiding your true nature, moreover it is searching the relation of the land and the people.
